Many women and men have unsightly areas of fat on their body. Even diet and exercise do little to reduce these stubborn deposits. CoolSculpting offers a new approach, allowing people to get rid of stubborn fat without needles, surgery, and other invasive procedures.
CoolSculpting is unique among fat reduction options because it is completely non-surgical. Instead of using suction and knives, this innovative treatment using cooling to damage resistant areas of fat. The recovery is so easy that most people do not even need downtime.
What is CoolSculpting
This fat freezing procedure produces a result similar to liposuction without the need for needles or incisions. Instead of anesthesia, patients can attack their fat in a painless and fast manner. In fact, this treatment requires only an hour per area of the body being treated. Patients usually see results within a few days, with the treatment complete in 2 to 3 months.
Is this treatment right for you? Although liposuction allows more targeted fat removal, CoolSculpting is less invasive and has much less recovery time. Dr. Cuber and his experienced team perform both procedures and can help you to make the right decision for your appearance goals.
The Technology Behind CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting destroys fat cells under the skin using cold temperature, a process known as Cryolipolysis. This procedure was discovered at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and developed further at Harvard Medical School. Scientists found that fat cells are more susceptible to damage from cold temperature than skin and other surrounding tissues.
Through the application of controlled cold, plastic surgeons can kill fat cells without damaging the surrounding area. These dead cells are cleared away by the body and do not grow back. As a result, cold temperature can be used to reduce fat without suction, incisions, and other invasive treatments. Patients who have this treatment can return to normal daily activities immediately and usually require no downtime.
CoolSculpting produces a noticeable reduction in stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is currently the only non-surgical FDA-approved option for fat removal.
What Areas of the Body Respond to CoolSculpting?
There are several areas of the body that respond well to CoolSculpting. These include:
- Abdomen and stomach
- Flanks (also called love handles or muffin top)
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs and “saddlebags”
- Rolls on the back
If you have stubborn fat deposits on any of these areas, CoolSculpting may be right for you.
Who Is a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?
If you are in good health and within 30 pounds of your target weight, CoolSculpting may be a great option for you. Both men and women report good results from this treatment. Some people may need more than treatment to reach their desired shape and size.
It is important to have reasonable expectations of this and all cosmetic procedures. CoolSculpting is not designed to help with weight loss. It cannot be used by people who are extremely overweight or obese. It generally is only used for people who are at or approaching their ideal weight and still have stubborn areas of fat that cannot be reduced using diet or exercise.
